The military MMO War Thunder wants to leave beta status after 3 years. Naval forces are planned for the time after the release.
War Thunder is still in open beta, but after 3 years, they are slowly ready for a release date, having either finished or developed all the features planned for release. This comes from a large Q&A session with Gaijin’s CEO, Anton Yuditsev.
With the release, the action should really begin. War Thunder also wants to cover all three major combat areas like “World of Tanks,” with naval forces to follow in addition to air and ground forces. However, the navy has always been planned for after the release.
No release schedule or a naval expansion can be elicited from Yuditsev.
Are Russian vehicles and PC players preferred in War Thunder?
As a Russian studio, there is no great fear of sanctions from the West if the “real conflicts” escalate further. Being an entertainment studio based in Russia, it is rather unlikely that they would be affected by economic sanctions. The weak ruble compared to the dollar and a constantly changing legal situation is causing more trouble for Gaijin.
The typical accusations against Gaijin of maintaining a “Russian bias,” a preference for Mother Russia and their combat vehicles, are dismissed by Yuditsev just as the accusation that PC players are technologically superior to PlayStation players. The country accusations come from all sorts of directions. Within the Russian community, for example, there are complaints that US vehicles are much stronger because US players presumably pay more.
The issue with the controls is a typical excuse players look for after a defeat. Tests have shown that neither side enjoys a real advantage here, at least not in realistic and arcade modes – in simulator mode, the joystick does indeed dominate.
