In War Thunder, players can also earn money. For example, by doing it like Daniil “Joy Division” Zaitsev, who spent months designing a complete aircraft of the type HE 219 “Uhu” and convinced the developers to offer it as a premium plane in the shop.
Hard work pays off at least in War Thunder, the aircraft and tank MMO from Gaijin Entertainment. The player and modder Daniil Zaitsev has meticulously recreated the German aircraft “HE 219 Uhu” as a 3D model and showed it to the developers. They were so impressed that they incorporated it into the game and involved the modder in the revenue.

The Fruits of Hard Work
In total, Zaitsev spent almost two years on the aircraft, as he was already made aware of a user in the forum back in October 2014 who had created a detailed model of a Ta-154 (another German aircraft). Zaitsev liked the idea and wanted to create his own aircraft as well. Since he didn’t have much experience with 3D models, he asked one of the developers from War Thunder for help, who was also often active in the forum.
He helped him enough and in the end Zaitsev’s dream aircraft, the HE 219, was completed and integrated into the game as a tier-4 premium aircraft. For his efforts, the modder received 5,000 USD and he will continue to be involved in the revenues from the aircraft.
What is actually a HE 219?
The aircraft in question, the He 219 “Uhu”, was a so-called “night fighter” of the German Air Force from World War II. These were heavy fighter aircraft that could operate at night using special instruments, such as radar systems. Its main area of operation was shooting down allied bombers, which had increasingly conducted bombing raids on German targets at night since 1940. However, the first use of the “Uhu” only occurred in 1942.
The HE 219 was a tough opponent for bombers, thanks to its strong armament and powerful engines, as it could gain altitude quickly and shredded bombers in no time with its six machine guns (2x20mm, 4x30mm). Additionally, the aircraft had a complex radar system and, as the first aircraft of the air force, a production-built ejector seat!
