War Thunder, the military MMO from Gaijin Entertainment, receives a PvE mode with update 1.67. In it, you fight alone or together in co-op against a horde of enemies. There are also three new maps and new planes and tanks.
War Thunder is primarily a PvP game, where you team up with players using tanks and planes to battle an equally sized enemy force. With update 1.67 – the first major patch of 2017 – a co-op PvE horde mode is added.
War Thunder – Assault Mode – Together Against the Enemy
In the new Assault mode, you choose a vehicle from your fleet and then face waves of enemies. This works on the ground as well as in the air. Tank drivers engage massive amounts of enemy tanks, while air fighters must shoot down waves of bombers that appear at different altitudes, or else transform the ground into a bombing inferno.
The Assault mode can also be played in co-op, where the strength of the enemy is based on the rating of the strongest vehicle. So, pay attention to a proper team composition.
Battle of the Bulge and Flying Gun Platforms
In addition to the new game mode, there are also three new maps; the two maps “Ardennes” and “Phan Nga” are suitable for both tank drivers and pilots, while the “Guiana Highlands” map is relevant only for planes. In the Ardennes map, you play at the site of the legendary Battle of the Bulge, the largest land battle of the US Army in World War II.
The Phan Nga map, on the other hand, is set in the Pacific, and the Guiana Highlands are 6,000 meters above sea level in South America. The rugged terrain allows for particularly breathtaking maneuvers and dogfights straight out of Star Wars in the trench of the Death Star!
To avoid boredom, there are again plenty of new planes and tanks, including the following vehicles:
- A-26B-50 Invader: A US ground attack aircraft equipped with 14 .50 caliber Browning guns, as well as a ton of unguided rockets.
- Heavy Tank T34: A heavy US tank
- Ju 87 StuKa: The feared StuKa receives a new model with fully animated bomb racks
- FV4005: A gigantic British tank destroyer with a 183mm cannon
- Spähpanzer Ru 251: A German post-war tank, the fastest tank so far in the game!
- Ki-67 Hiryu: A legendary Japanese bomber from World War II
- IS-6: The hefty Russian tank is finally in the game!
- Sturmpanzer II: This self-propelled howitzer fires massive HE shells
- Type 60 ATM: An armored personnel carrier of the Japan Self-Defense Forces, employing wire-guided anti-tank missiles.
