The battle royale game Apex Legends is currently the big deal among gamers. But the success curiously affects even unrelated games.
This studio benefits from the success of Apex Legends: The developers of a VR game are now thrilled about the release of Apex Legends. Last year, the Swedish studio Fast Travel Games released the game Apex Construct on Steam.
The name sounds similar to Apex Legends, and the logos show some similarities. However, Apex Construct is a completely different game. It focuses on story and archery.
Here’s why the developers are excited: On Reddit, Andreas from Fast Travel Games reaches out to the community. He explains that the views of the Steam store page for Apex Construct have increased by 4000 % since the release of Apex Legends on February 4.
“… and Legends is not available on Steam at all. It is exclusive to EA Origin,” Andreas explains. “What makes this even stranger is that we sold Apex Construct to China more often in the last 7 days than we did throughout all of 2018.”
This is the big problem: Andreas writes that people are willing to spend even $29.99 for something they believe is Apex Legends, even though it is actually free-to-play. He now expects many returns, “… but our books look very good right now,” he jokes.
The confusion brings significant disadvantages, as Apex Construct is now receiving many negative reviews from China. “These are buyers who believe they have been cheated, even though we did nothing wrong,” explains the developer.
They are now working with the Steam Community Team to hopefully find a solution to the misunderstanding and the resulting negative reviews.
