In Pokémon GO, Thundurus will arrive in raids on March 2nd. We will show you what the raid boss can do and whether many raids will be worthwhile.
How long will Thundurus stay? The legendary Pokémon will enter raids on March 2nd at 10 PM. However, it will only be available for us starting March 3rd, as no raids will take place that late. It is unclear how long Thundurus will stay, but it is expected to disappear in early April.
Thundurus was announced along with numerous other events for March.
To let you know if you have finally encountered a strong raid boss, we will show you the stats and usability of Thundurus here.
How worthwhile will Thundurus raids be
What do the stats show? For an initial overview, let’s take a look at Thundurus’ stats. It is important to note that this is Thundurus in its Incarnate Form:
- Attack: 266
- Defense: 164
- HP: 188
- Max CP: 3345
The attack value of 266 is quite good for an Electric-type attacker, and no other Pokémon of this type has such a high value. However, the other two values are quite weak, and Thundurus does not withstand much damage in battle.
What do the moves show? The look at the moves reveals the significant problem of Thundurus. It has very weak Electric-type moves:
- Fast Moves: Thunder Shock (Electric) and Astonish (Ghost)
- Charged Moves: Thunder (Electric), Thunderbolt (Electric), Bite (Dark), and Focus Blast (Fighting)
There are much better Electric moves in the game, yet Thundurus has no access to them. With these moves, it deals significantly less damage than monsters like Raikou or Electivire.
Are the raids worth it? A good Thundurus is certainly not bad, but the wrong moves devalue it enormously. However, one can hope that it may learn a good move someday, making it significantly more useful.
You can start collecting candies diligently, but your team will not be able to strengthen itself with it currently. You can find the best Electric-type attackers here.
One should keep in mind that Thundurus will also appear in its Therian Form. There, it will have significantly better stats and could become the best Electric attacker with the right moves. So, it’s worth saving candies for this.
How does it perform in PvP? Here, Thundurus shines through its numerous charged moves that are sometimes very quickly charged.
However, it also has some disadvantages here. With its weakness to Rock-type, it can be easily defeated, and its durability in battles is not very high due to low values in defense and HP.
