Vin Diesel is the undisputed star of the “Fast and Furious” series. For over twenty years, however, he has dreamed of a completely different role. Ideally, he would like to play the great conqueror Hannibal. But it is none other than Denzel Washington who will now snatch this opportunity right from under his Hollywood colleague’s nose.
Which film is it about? The Carthaginian general Hannibal is undoubtedly one of the most famous historical figures. Accordingly, there have already been a number of film adaptations, such as from 1959. What was then an Italian sandal film is supposed to become an epic Netflix feature today.
The mammoth work is directed by Antoine Fuqua. Movie lovers know him as the creative mind behind films like “Training Day” or “The Equalizer.” And just like in the two aforementioned films, Denzel Washington will play the lead role in the upcoming “Hannibal” film adaptation. Fuqua and Washington are old friends, so it was obvious who should embody the famous general.

How does Vin Diesel fit into this? While most may be satisfied with the choice of leading actor, Vin Diesel might have some objections. When the actor received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2013, he wondered if it wasn’t too early for that. After all, he still intended to embody Hannibal in three films.
What exactly fascinates Vin Diesel about the character of the strategist he did not reveal. Nevertheless, he has not tired in the past to periodically rave about his very own “Hannibal” film. For example, on his Instagram account, where he writes about the difficult production circumstances:

Whether Netflix’s current plans will put a damper on these daydreams remains to be seen. When exactly filming with Denzel Washington is set to begin is also still up in the air. Just recently, the strike of actors in the USA was resolved with an agreement.
According to Deadline, Washington will first move on to another major project, the second part of Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator.” So it may take a while before the Hollywood star rides over the Alps on an elephant.
And what is Vin Diesel doing? Just a few months ago, he played the role of Dominic Toretto for the tenth time in the popular “Fast and the Furious” series. Another franchise is also set to make its return soon. In the fourth part of the “Chronicles of Riddick” series, he will once again play the titular lead role. And who knows if he won’t soon be behind the wheel of a stylish race car again.
Furthermore, Vin Diesel himself is an avid gamer and enjoys having fun in Wow PvP. There doesn’t seem to be much time left for his own “Hannibal” film series. It is also questionable whether Hollywood wants to produce two films about the same figure in quick succession. The success of Denzel Washington’s film will be crucial.
