Bringing resources home in Valheim can be quite tedious. However, some players have now found a method that makes it easier – even without portals. It looks cool … and pretty ridiculous at the same time.
What is this method? It’s quite simple: You spear a friend with a harpoon while they are pulling a cart and then board your ship. When you set sail and move across the water, the speared friend along with the cart gets dragged behind you.
The cart can be as full as it can get. Your friend will not lose stamina and won’t drown. This way, you can pull them even over long distances. Both players need to activate PvP for this. We tested it and it works flawlessly.
This is useful if you want to transport materials over long distances or have ores and metals in your inventory that you can’t bring through portals. If you previously dig channels through the islands, you’ll advance even easier.
By the way, the ship should not necessarily be a raft, as that is too slow. Generally, we recommend building a karve instead of a raft – the investment is worth it.
The players who discovered this method also showcase it in a short video. They call it “water skiing” and indeed the cart on the rope behind the longship resembles water skiing:
Impaling Friends and Transporting Resources
Isn’t that dangerous? Yes, a little bit. There are several factors you should consider with this method:
- If your ship is too fast, like a longship at full speed, the rope will snap.
- The harpooner’s stamina must not be completely drained, or the rope will snap as well.
- In the ocean, you can be attacked by sea serpents, making the harpooned player an easy target.
Currently, there are six playable biomes in Valheim and three more that are still under development. One of those, the mistlands, will arrive with one of the next updates.
If the rope snaps, you can simply turn the ship around and spear your friend again. Since the player is not actively swimming, they can stay in place without drowning.

Where can I get the harpoon? The Abyssal Harpoon is a special weapon that you can obtain in the ocean. Leviathans spawn there, from which you have to harvest chitin. The harpoon itself deals little damage but pulls your target behind you.

How can I use this further? In our test, we found that the harpoon and cart also work on land. Since you are generally faster as the harpooner, you can even pull your friend a little on land to save their stamina – especially with a very full cart.
The harpoon also has another, much crazier use that also involves other players. Due to the tension on the rope, you can literally launch your friends over ramps. Players build human catapults in Valheim and fling each other through the air.
