Content creators often hear that they should get a “real job.” However, Twitch streamer “Mcky” is not the right person to say that to, because the 30-year-old knows a thing or two about hard work. But he prefers to play games for a living.
What kind of streamer is he? Michael, known as “Mcky,” is one of the most viewed streamers on German Twitch. On his channel MckyTV, he has over 1.3 million followers. But it wasn’t always like that: He has said that he used to be addicted to gaming and heavily in debt.
Today, Mcky is living his dream. However, he has little understanding for a nasty comment from a viewer.

Viewer complains in the stream, but it backfires
What was the situation? On April 25, Mcky reported on Twitter about an incident that occurred during his stream the night before. A viewer had told him in the chat to get a real job instead of streaming.
How did the streamer react? He explained to the viewer that he used to work a normal job, but he prefers to earn his money with video games. He wished the viewer “a lot of fun with working.” That could have been the end of the matter, had it not been for the streamer’s community.
Because the fans first showered Mcky with gift subscriptions. He could hardly keep up with thanking each one individually. The streamer realizes that the viewer surely chose the wrong channel for his comment: His community is just the type that would give him even more gifts.
He thanked his fans for their support:
You are the reason why I can do this for years and I get up every day and think: “What a great life I have!” That I can do what I do, how I do it, without taking shady deals, without selling my ass to gambling, without promoting alcohol. Just being able to be myself, and I am very grateful for that, and I have been for years. Love, love, love.

Streamer wants to give something back
What’s behind it? On Twitter, the streamer elaborated on why the support of his fans means so much to him. Mcky talks about his past. At 19, he worked in a furniture store, at 23 he worked during the day and streamed at night.
In fact, Mcky has been on Twitch since 2015, but he only broke through in November 2017. Within 4 months, he jumped from an average of 44 viewers to 1,309, and now it’s over 4,500 (via sullygnome).

In light of the support from his fans, Mcky finds it important to stay grateful. In a comment, he writes that it is important not to only use this blessing for himself but also to give something back: to his community, to charitable causes, to his own environment (via Twitter).
For people who pursue a more traditional profession, it can sometimes be hard to understand how much money large content creators make for playing games half the day. This can lead to heated discussions as well. For example, Twitch streamer Elotrix did not appreciate a viewer’s comment at all:
