Since August 31, the pre-patch of Wrath of the Lich King is playable in WoW Classic. This brings new features to the game and returns an old cinematic that gave many gamers chills 14 years ago.
When you start WoW Classic for the first time from now on, you will be greeted by a legendary cinematic that revolves entirely around the Lich King Arthas Menethil and his undead Scourge army.
Arthas’ father, Terenas Menethil II, praises his son in the short video as someone who will one day be a good, kind king. In stark contrast, you see the Lich King resurrecting a dragon as an undead monster with his soul-stealing sword.
The Lich King Arthas is one of the most popular antagonists in WoW, especially because he played the main role in the previous strategy game Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne. Starting September 27 2022, you can once again face him and his army.
With WotLK, another legendary cinematic returns – the first in-game cinematic WoW ever had. In our hub, you will find all information about WotLK Classic.
WoW Classic leaves Burning Crusade behind, fully transitions to WotLK
With the release of WotLK Classic, The Burning Crusade completely disappears. The second expansion will no longer be playable. Blizzard reserves the right to possibly release a “Season of Mastery” for TBC. Currently, there is no information on this.
Instead, all BC servers will automatically become WotLK servers, where you can level up to level 80 in Northrend. To prepare, there will soon be an event where you become zombies yourselves to terrorize Azeroth.
With Wrath of the Lich King, WoW Classic also receives some new content, including:
- Inscription as a new profession
- Barbers and achievements as new features
- new dungeons and raids
- Death Knight as a new class, which you can play right now
However, compared to before, there are also some changes. For instance, the controversial Dungeon Finder has not been reintroduced. The feature caused many discussions before, and especially veterans were generally against it. Now there is once again a dispute that the Dungeon Finder is not in the game.
We still do not know exactly when we will face the Lich King in Icecrown Citadel. The release of the phases that will bring Ulduar, the Argent Tournament, and finally the Citadel is still open.
