The second and latest trailer of the HBO series for The Last of Us shows many allusions to the video games. The story of the games is about taking us on an emotional journey that breaks our hearts again and again. The adaptation will capture just that.
Have you played The Last of Us? If so, the first real trailer for the series adaptation might leave you just as breathless as it did for me and evoke some memories.
Even in the last teaser trailer, I was sure that there might be a perfect adaptation of the games coming our way. Now, I am certain that will be the case.
Emotional Key Scenes in the Series
Every time I finish the story of The Last of Us, I have to pause for a moment and reflect on what the game has done to me. This is mainly due to the emotional journey that the main characters Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) embark on.
Many large emotional key scenes from the game are in this new trailer. These very scenes have already shattered my heart into pieces. The developing father-daughter relationship between Joel and Ellie plays an important role, of course. But I am talking about many other characters that make the game unforgettable on an emotional level.
I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone who doesn’t know the story, so I’ll just drop this for those in the know: the little brother or the smuggler – yes, these characters will also have their place in the series.
But there is also a scene at 01:30 that you won’t find in the games. A crying baby that apparently has just been born in the midst of an apocalypse. In the context of the games, this can either mean all the good in the world or all the bad in the world.
The trailer was presented at the Comic Con Experience (CCXP), where there was a panel with some of the cast and the creator present. Co-writer Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) said here:
I hope it’s okay for you if your heart is broken again and again… it’s all there, with the template Neil Druckman created in the game.
And that’s all I want from this adaptation.
In Germany, the series starts on the night of January 15 to 16, on Sky.
Cortyn is deeply affected by The Last of Us Part II and explains what makes the story of the game so unique:
