Not much longer, and the dust will fly in Street Fighter 6 again. In a new video, Capcom shows how to play Zangief after over 30 years.
Since Street Fighter 2: The World Warriors (1991), Zangief has been part of the Street Fighter
universe and playable in almost every installment. The “Red Cyclone” relies on raw power and classic wrestling moves.
With even more muscles and this time long pants, his repertoire primarily consists of powerful throws. He moves slower than most fighters but deals immense damage in return.
Once Zangief gets close to the opponent, it’s hard to escape his throws. However, characters with a lot of range and projectiles put pressure on Zangief.
Especially against opponents who block a lot, Zangief is a good choice, as throws can break the opponent’s defense.
Apart from his throws, Zangief has good medium attack range with his long arms and can try to poke his opponent.
Executing his throws is a different matter altogether and requires unfamiliar inputs. Rotating the stick completely at the right timing can be cumbersome for many.
