In the latest trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, a small ghost dog is introduced. However, the trailer is quite dark for Pokémon standards and somewhat reminiscent of scenes from horror movies. Especially the classic “Blair Witch Project” comes to mind.
What’s new about the Pokémon games? The new titles in the main Pokémon series, Scarlet and Violet, aren’t far away – release date is November 18.
Until then, there will be smaller trailers that introduce new features. The trailer above shows a new monster: Gruff, a ghost-type Pokémon from the Paldea region.
The little ghost puppy can bury itself in the ground, leaving just its candle on its head visible. You can expect both ghost attacks and regular moves from it, such as “Bite”.
How does the trailer relate to horror films? In the trailer, you hear a person speaking and see the scene from the perspective of a camera. The person themselves is not visible, but their breathing sounds are clearly audible.
On behalf of the Orange Academy, they are searching for ghost Pokémon and quickly find one. A Mimikyu emerges from behind a rock, the person is startled, and the camera shakes, showing interference as their breathing becomes heavier.
This directly reminds of the horror hit “Blair Witch Project”. In the first film of the series, only footage resembling that from amateur cameras was used. Often, you only see the camera perspective of a victim.
After a while, the person finds a small ghost puppy. The mood quickly shifts to the positive, and the person throws a stick for the “good” dog. However, they become tired, and the first throw is already difficult for them.
Then they fall and get a “lick” from the new ghost–Pokémon Gruff. Another image distortion fades the picture to black.
Under an English version of the trailer, a player asks: “So, the Pokémon drained the life out of the woman? Are Pokémon killing now?” (via youtube.com).
It looks like the cute puppy may not be so friendly after all.
