On November 18, 2022, the new Pokémon titles “Scarlet” and “Violet” will be released. A new trailer should now prepare you for the adventures in the new Paldea region.
Pokémon shows new information: In the “Pokémon Presents” stream on August 3, 2022, not only new content for the Pokémon GO Fest was presented, but primarily the new main games “Scarlet” and “Violet” were the focus.
A comprehensive insight into the new Paldea region showed many features that fans of the series can expect in the new titles.
These include the legendary Pokémon “Koraidon” and “Miraidon”. They can apparently be encountered early and assist you as shape-shifting mounts in exploring the world.
A new important feature is “Teracristallization”. This makes your monsters shine like gemstones and gives them a crystal crown.
But it also has gameplay significance: Every monster has a “Tera-type” that is activated with Teracristallization. Your Pokémon will adopt this type, and the effect enhances attacks of that type.
The exciting part: Your monsters can change their types this way. A Normal Eevee can suddenly become a Water-type and thus surprise your opponents. Additionally, not every specimen of a monster has the same Tera-type. For example, plant or fire Eevees are possible as well.
Moreover, features such as:
- Tera-Raids, which you can play with other trainers. Here you can get new Teracristallized monsters.
- Three storylines that you can progress at your leisure.
- New regional variants of old monsters, such as Paldea-Felino.
- New Pokémon such as the teacup dog “Hefel”.

Pokémon fans discuss new features – Not everyone agrees
This is what fans say: If you look at the comments on YouTube regarding the trailer or on reddit, you will find plenty of discussions about the insight into the game. Many players are just excited about the return of certain Pokémon, and even the new monster “Hefel” is already gaining attention. Perhaps this will be the next favorite after the pig monster “Lechonk”.
One point of discussion is the three new story types, which players should be able to pursue at their discretion. A user on reddit wonders: “The three story types sound very interesting to me; I wonder how diverse they are and if you can do more than one per game?” (via reddit).
There are several responses to this. One player explains that all run in parallel and that this gives multiple progress systems in the game, which is also confirmed on the Pokémon website: “Surprisingly ambitious for a Pokémon game,” finds user AxLD (via reddit).
However, there is also skepticism about how innovative this will really be: “It’s probably the same as in every other main Pokémon game: league story, rival story, and villain story. Just divided into separate plots instead of being intertwined,” suspects user Daracaex (via reddit).
It has already been confirmed at this point that one story will indeed be the path to champion. However, which arenas one tackles in which order is left up to the player – also a new feature.
Another point of discussion is the new Teracristallization feature. Here fans are divided: “I don’t know how they managed to make a new mechanic look worse than Gigantamaxing/Dynamaxing, but they definitely did,” criticizes a user on reddit.
Here there is quite a lot of agreement. Some other users do not find the crowns on the heads of the monsters particularly appealing.
However, there is praise for the idea of being able to cause type changes: “The cool thing is that this will really make competitions interesting, with type and ability combinations we’ve never seen before,” emphasizes a user (via reddit): “The bad thing is that it somehow looks terrible, it’s so bright and gaudy that it literally hurts my eyes.”
Another user also finds: “In terms of mechanics, it’s definitely more interesting, but visually it’s rough” (via reddit).
Elsewhere, some users speak of “rough”—namely, the graphics in general. Here, as with previous installments like Sword / Shield or Legends: Arceus, there is criticism that they are simply not up to date anymore.
