The trailer for the new “Silent Hill f” is full of creepy images and hidden symbolism. Horror fans can look forward to a treat.
Fans of “Silent Hill” had to wait a long time for a truly new game and have had to settle for remakes or appearances in other games like Dead by Daylight in recent years. But now it seems that the time has finally come. A new trailer for the upcoming “Silent Hill f” has dropped and is causing a lot of discussion.
The trailer shows a young woman in a school uniform mourning at a grave at the beginning. Later, she flees from rapidly spreading plants that “infect” and use the bodies of humans as hosts to extend themselves with tendrils.
In the end, the woman apparently submits to her fate and “blooms” in a river or lake, where countless flowers grow from the pores of her body and those of other corpses, ultimately peeling the skin from her face.
Interestingly, the trailer also draws some parallels to old Silent Hill games. For instance, you see the young woman dragging a rusty pipe across the ground – her movements and the accompanying sounds remind one of the famous “Pyramid Head” figure.
Famous light novel author wrote the story of Silent Hill f
What might also be interesting for many confessed weebs and anime fans is the fact that the new Silent Hill f was written by Ryukishi07. This is the pen name of a Japanese light novel author responsible for some of the best horror stories in recent years, including the anime adaptation of “Higurashi: When They Cry” (Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni).
It is also interesting that the trailer of Silent Hill f shows many red flowers, whose petals clearly belong to the red spider lily (Lycoris radiata) – a symbolism that holds significance especially in the Asian context. The red spider lily is also called the “flower of the dead” in the Asian realm and is often viewed as a sign of rebirth.
Also, the river with the Japanese temple-like gateway has a deeper meaning. In the Asian culture, such a scene often depicts the transition from life to death, as souls pass this river as a passage to the realm of the dead.
If you know this, it’s quite possible that the “f” in Silent Hill f stands for the Japanese word “fukkatsu” – meaning reincarnation or rebirth. And as you can imagine, a rebirth in the cosmos of Silent Hill is probably a rather creepy affair.
More information is surely forthcoming in the coming weeks as new trailers, leaks, or just more official information becomes available. Or perhaps never again, like in 2014 with the playable teaser.
