Stardew Valley is a pixel-art farm simulation that achieved great success. A new pirate game on Steam evokes the successful title and focuses on an open world as well as PvP battles. But what kind of game is it?
What is Arcane Waters? Arcane Waters is a pirate game that starts in Early Access on November 15, 2022, and is available on Steam.
The cooperative title features a large open world with various biomes, where you can engage in thrilling naval battles against other players. However, in addition to PvP opponents, you will also encounter monsters and NPC pirates in Arcane Waters that you must defend against.
Comparison to Stardew Valley
Why does it remind you of Stardew Valley? Arcane Waters resembles the successful farm simulation from 2016, especially in its charming design. This applies not only to the pixel art but also to the colorful design of the game world.

But there are also some gameplay similarities. Starting with the mouse pointer control, it continues with the monsters that attack you on the remote islands where your pirate lands. Stardew Valley has similar encounters with monsters during mining exploration that you must defeat before your mining activities gain momentum.
However, especially “Stardew Valley” farmers are likely to feel at home on their own farm that your pirate tends in his hometown. According to the Arcane Waters page on Steam, it is even possible to unlock additional farms and increase your own harvest. Thus, your pixel pirate soon becomes a real farmer.

Comparison to Sea of Thieves
Why does it remind you of Sea of Thieves? Okay, visually the games differ greatly from each other, but there are some gameplay components that remind you of the principle behind Sea of Thieves.
Aside from the pirate theme, Arcane Waters largely focuses on exploration of the open world and sailing on the high seas. Just like in Sea of Thieves, you take your pirate to a ship and sail across the seas.
On the high seas, you explore various islands and biomes, fight against monsters and other pirates – including players – and collect treasures. In the cities of the world of Arcane Waters, you can then sell your goods. We know that from Sea of Thieves.
Among the tradable items in Arcane Waters are also weapons and armor, which you can craft with items your opponents dropped on your journeys. You can thus profit from things you collected on your journey – a true pirate life, just like in Sea of Thieves.
What do you think? Does Arcane Waters remind you of a mix between Stardew Valley and Sea of Thieves, or do you disagree with the comparison? Feel free to write it here in the comments on MeinMMO!
