In a new video, the developers revealed more about the new Free2Play fighting game Project L. The game utilizes the champions and the lore of League of Legends, but brings its very own gameplay approach.
The LoL creators are working on a fighting game, similar to Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat. In the world of League of Legends, the champions battle in a whole new way – through combo fighting in 2D worlds.
The latest video provides deeper insights into the gameplay. Tom Cannon, Executive Producer of Project L, explains the movement techniques and showcases team attacks. In Project L, you apparently always choose 2 champions who support each other.
- Movement Techniques
- Running
- Dash
- Jumping
- Chain Dash
- Long Jump
- Super Jump
Additionally, many champions have special movement techniques that only these champions can master.
- Team Combos
- Assist Actions
- Handshake Tag
- Dynamic Save
You can get help from a second champion and thus expand your attack combos. You decide through “Handshake” whether you want to completely switch the champion or if the team mate just makes a brief visit.
Moreover, you can interrupt a combo of the opponent with the Dynamic Save. Wrong timing with the Dynamic Save, however, makes you vulnerable to counterattacks.
How does it differ from other fighting games? Tom Cannon briefly touched on that as well. They want to place a clear focus on offense. Players are usually at an advantage when they initiate an attack.
For defenders, it is important to anticipate the opponent’s attacks. If offensive players are too uninspired in their combos, it quickly backfires.
How significantly Project L differs from the big competition around Street Fighter, Tekken, and Mortal Kombat still remains to be seen. However, with the Free2Play approach, they already have a strong unique selling proposition.
Under the video on YouTube (via youtube.com), there is a lot of praise for the open communication and explanation approaches. Oscar Lorenzo wrote, for example: “I like how you explain the process of how characters are created in this game.”
Additionally, many users are excited about the game in general and the progress visible with each new video. szczunokin writes: “The game looks better with each passing time. I’m really excited.”
