FIFA 23 shows the mode for the football World Cup in Qatar and fans of the sports simulation are reacting disappointed.
What kind of mode is this? For the major tournaments of international football, EA always comes up with special modes in FIFA. In these, football fans can take control of their favorite teams and strive for success in the World Cup. This is also possible in FIFA 23 for the football World Cup in Qatar.
When does the mode come out? The World Cup update for FIFA 23 will be released on November 9 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

What does the mode include? In this year’s World Cup mode, you again have the option to play the World Cup online or offline against the AI. There will also be an online tournament, which will however take place separately from Ultimate Team.
During the World Cup, you are also free to consider the correct results in your own tournament progress and for example, play with the actual final teams after the group stage.
If you don’t want to replicate the exact tournament course, you even have the option to swap individual teams. This way, you can even aim for the World Champion title with Italy – the reigning European Champion misses the finals of the World Cup.
World Cup Heroes and Swaps Tokens
What do FUT players receive? Even though the World Cup does not represent a standalone gaming experience within Ultimate Team, FUT fans can look forward to some content.
There will be a “World Cup Starter Pack” that you will receive upon your first login to the game and it brings you “World Cup Player Cards”. You should additionally be able to unlock these through milestones and SBCs. According to EA, some “FIFA World Cup Player Cards” may have enhanced attributes compared to their base variants.
The World Cup experience for FUT players is rounded off by the “World Cup Hero” cards and the so-called World-Cup-Swaps. Here, you will receive swap tokens similar to the ICON-Swaps, which you can exchange for permanent pack contents and special player items.

What do the fans say? FIFA fans are showing their disappointment with this year’s mode on YouTube. Some complain about the low number of stadiums or the lack of a special mode in Ultimate Team. Some even wish for a mode to return like it was in 2010 or 2014.

What was different in 2014? In the football World Cup 2014, FUT had a separate World Cup mode, the free “FIFA Ultimate Team: World Cup”. Here you could assemble a team from all 32 national teams that participated in the World Cup tournament in Brazil (via ea.com).
In addition, there were player and consumable items in the so-called World Cup sets with values specially adjusted for the World Cup and updated images of the players. Moreover, each World Cup set included a free gold set for the regular FUT mode.
Overall, the entire tournament was playable within Ultimate Team both online and offline (via ea.com) and put football fans in a World Cup mood.
