Apex Legends introduces the new legend of the upcoming season in “Stories from the Outlands: Last Hope”: Catalyst. However, the community hardly discusses the trailer and leaves numerous comments under the video referring to a meme.
What kind of legend is this? The video provides insight into the past of the new legend Catalyst. Her real name is Tressa Smith, and she lived as a teenager on the planet Boreas. She and her friends were on a mission to save the broken moon Cleo. However, an incident occurs that fundamentally changes her life.
With Catalyst comes a defensive legend and Terraformer who can control the so-called “ferrofluid” with her supernatural abilities.
What can be expected from the heroine? As already shown in the video and hinted at on the Apex Legends website, the black substance called “ferrofluid” seems to be important in connection with the legend.
A leak about Catalyst provides initial hints regarding the abilities of the legend. However, these are currently unconfirmed information that could also be implemented differently in the final concept (via Youtube and dotesports.com).
As a passive ability, “Reinforce” is expected. When Catalyst stands next to destructible structures, such as doors or certain protection items of her team heroes, these are reinforced and become harder to destroy.
As a tactical ability, named “Resin Shot”, it is expected that Catalyst can build structures that are located on the ground or walls. According to the leak, these can also be connected together to form a larger structure and used as cover. However, the structures also take damage and can be destroyed.
The ultimate ability could be “Ferro Wall”. In this, Catalyst creates a tower-like structure and the legend can gain a tactical advantage from the height.
When is Catalyst coming? With the upcoming major update of Apex Legends, themed “Darkness”, on November 1, 2022, Catalyst will be added to the game. In addition to the new legend, there will also be a new map and a new battle pass.

How does the community react? Below the article, there are numerous comments about a certain meme in various versions. In doing so, the users “praise” a specific scene from the trailer that often did not even appear in the video (via YouTube):

- J.D: “I love the part where nobody talks about the trailer and then memes pop up everywhere. Truly an Apex Legends trailer experience!”
With “Apex Experience,” two things can be meant in English:
- On one hand, it can be seen as an experience within a match in Apex Legends.
- On the other hand, “Apex” in English means “peak” or “summit,” which can also translate to “great experience.”
It is therefore a play on words with which players amuse themselves about different states or situations in Apex Legends.
Occasionally, one can also find variations of a meme about the infamous Marvel film Morbius: “It’s Morbin’ Time.” This could also refer to the “Apex experience.” Already under the video of Vantage’s “Stories of the Outlands,” numerous Morbius memes ended with the addition “truly an experience.” This humorously deals with the negative criticism of the film, where one can ironically speak of a “cinematic experience.”
For Vantage, the connection to the “vampire superhero” film was evident due to the bat companion “Echo.” Here, the goth style of Catalyst may have created the connection to Morbius.
