Amazon has introduced a small robot called Astro. In a way, you get Alexa on wheels. In the latest trailer, Amazon shows how the little guy defends you against burglars.
Amazon has introduced a robot that goes by the name ‘Astro’. The device features a robot with Alexa’s functions. Unlike previous Alexa devices, this one is mobile and can move around your home.
What can the robot do? The Astro offers you all the functions you know from the Amazon Echo tablet. You can:
- set reminders,
- play music
- or make calls
What is shown in the video? The robot can also guard your home when you’re away. Astro can connect with your security cameras and patrol the apartment. You can see how it works in the video. In the video, the robot successfully “fights” two burglars trying to break into the owner’s house.
How much does Amazon Astro cost? The starting price is $999. After an “introductory period”, the price will rise to $1,450. In Germany, prices are likely to be a bit higher as US prices are tax-free.
When can you buy the cute robot? If you really want to get the robot, you need to be strong because it’s currently only available in the USA. Amazon states on the official product page: “Please note that this product can only be shipped to addresses in the 50 US states.”
When the robot will come to Germany is still unknown. However, all Alexa devices have previously arrived in Europe with a slight delay.
