On YouTube, a video provides an initial insight into the gameplay of the new first-person shooter SHRAPNEL. Although one aspect of the community is seen as needing improvement, several players praise the clip and are excited about the upcoming game.
What is SHRAPNEL? The game is a multiplayer first-person shooter with the ability for players to create their own creations: Because NFTs are part of the game mechanics, and the game includes a blockchain system that allows players to earn real money.
You can read here, what NFTs actually are and why they keep appearing in gaming.
What is SHRAPNEL about? The setting is a futuristic world where there was a catastrophic event: The asteroid “38 Sigma” collided with the moon, causing lunar meteorites to strike the Earth. The uninhabitable impact area since then is known as the “Sacrifice Zone” (“The Zone”).
In this area, the mysterious material “Compound Sigma” appears, which has special properties. The player fights against others in the zone for resources and their survival.

The users like the video, but request an adjustment
What does the community say about the gameplay trailer? The video was released on both YouTube and Twitter. The reactions from the community are quite similar on both platforms:
One aspect is mentioned by many and they request it to be adjusted before the release: “Looks great, but it’s so shaky that I thought it was a VR game.” Another user jokes: “POV: It’s your first time trying to play an FPS (First-Person Shooter) game and your sensitivity is set too high” (via YouTube).
Overall, however, the video is received quite well by people. Several praise the insight into the game and write comments like: “The more I see of this game, the cooler I find it. Really impressive work here!” on Twitter or “I think it’s [the video] fantastic, even more so because it’s a pre-alpha trailer. Congratulations!” (via YouTube).
What to expect in SHRAPNEL
SHRAPNEL is marketed as the first first-person shooter that integrates blockchain technology into the game. In addition to combat, the game provides tools that allow players to create their own creations.
In the game, you have the opportunity to craft items, weapons, skins, and maps (which represent NFTs) using various tools, and then resell them to other players.
This is where the blockchain system comes into play. When a player dies in battle, they lose their equipment (i.e., NFTs). Thus, each confrontation poses a risk that must be carefully considered.
The game’s community can help in creating the NFTs that can be used in the game. Therefore, the number of available items continues to grow.
In the game, there will be operator classes. There are 3 different ones for players to choose from:
- Assault
- Infosec
- Survivalist
Each of the three classes will have its own abilities and skills.
When is the release of SHRAPNEL? No release date for the game has been announced yet. However, you can find a roadmap on the website that shows the current state of the game as well as the planned next steps.
Currently, SHRAPNEL is still in “active development” in Phase 00, where the focus is initially on establishing a community.
