The action RPG Diablo 2 Resurrected is for many new players the first time they enter Blizzard’s classic. But veterans have known the game for 20 years. One person says now that new players should be aware that the finished game is very different from the beta. Because the beta only shows the slow beginning of the game, the gameplay in the finished game will be much faster.
This is the situation:
- The studio Blizzard remakes its old hit Diablo 2 (2000) in 2021. The first betas for Diablo 2 Resurrected have already run: However, players could only play Act 1 and 2 and only in the first of the three difficulty levels “Normal”. Only 5 of the 7 classes were available.
- The reactions to the beta are divided. Some are excited about the remake; they have wished for years to dive back into their beloved world and now enjoy the contemporary graphics. Others say: Some things are better left in the past.
- A veteran now explains to new players that they should not believe that the full game “Diablo 2 Resurrected” is like in the beta.
Beta is much slower than the finished game – So many Mana potions
What are the differences? The reddit user Calimonium says he knows that many people are playing Diablo 2 for the first time and they need to be made clear:
“Diablo 2 plays drastically different once you have completed Normal mode.”
Currently, only Acts 1 and 2 are playable in Normal mode. This brings some differences between the beta and the finished game at high difficulty levels:
- The speed is extremely slow
- The character builds are only mediocre
- You would consume too much mana and thus constantly have to chug mana potions
In the finished game, there are no such problems at high levels:
- The mana regeneration would be better then. A rune word and mana leech would take care of that
- Moreover, the itemization in Diablo 2 gets much better at levels 40-62 – Then the speed of the game noticeably increases
Game experience strongly depends on whether you read “guides”
This is being discussed: On reddit, people are discussing whether the statement of the thread creator is really true.
It is pointed out: Anyone who does not inform themselves and plays “normally” will find the pace in Diablo 2 Resurrected relatively slow, just like in the beta.
The speed of the game increases considerably when you use good skills and good items, but if you are a new player who does not read guides and does not try to min/max everything, then you end up with a very different game experience. […] It is more accurate to say that Diablo 2 opens up and gives players many more options for how to play than in the early levels.

How fast or slow you want to play Diablo 2 Resurrected also depends on the player and how willing they are to invest time to learn the gameplay mechanics.
Diablo 2 becomes significantly deeper and more complex after the beginning
What’s behind it: For many hardcore players of Diablo 2, the appeal of the game is that your character keeps getting stronger. You keep collecting more items, optimizing your build further to squeeze out those last few percent.
This ultimately creates a closed cycle: You collect better loot so that you can finish the next Baal run a few milliseconds faster to find better loot.
For “heavy players”, the game reveals its appeal only when you have significantly more options to choose from among many different skills and items in the mid and endgame. The beta accurately represents the beginning of Diablo 2, but not the gameplay depth the game develops later when you seek it and take that path.
How Diablo 2 Resurrected plays for you also strongly depends on which class you choose:
