For newcomers diving into an MMORPG like World of Warcraft, SWTOR, or The Elder Scrolls Online, it can be quite challenging. How does one gain access to other players as a lone wolf? How do you find a nice guild and leave a good impression right away? We provide you with a clear guide that will make all other players dance to your tune.
The Right Start – The Gold of Others
Being completely new in an MMORPG can often be a difficult experience. But it’s frustrating to have to earn all achievements by yourself. Therefore, at the start of your career, you should aim directly for a big capital city with many players and leave your first impression immediately: Ask for gold!
Use the general channel or a “shout” function frequently. If you don’t ask at least every 30 seconds, then you’re not taking this seriously enough.
Whether it’s for the first mount, a better sword, or simply more inventory slots, every player knows your problem and will immediately feel empathetic towards you. By persistently begging (preferably even by opening a trade window before whispering the first sentence), friendships for life can be formed here. After all, those who owe you money will contact you every few days on their own.
Claim Loot for Yourself
In MMORPGs, it’s all about the loot. In many games, you have the option to pass on received equipment to other players. When fancy loot drops in dungeons or raid instances, the joy among the fortunate is always great.
Here you have the chance to be particularly courteous! You see a fellow player has received an epic piece of equipment? Check immediately if you could use the item as well. Inspect your fellow player’s character and see if the item would be an upgrade for them. If not? Approach that player immediately and demand the transfer of the item.
A simple “Give me [Chain Shirt of Bold Demands]” is perfectly sufficient. Don’t be tempted to use polite words like “please” or “thank you” – MMORPG players have little time and don’t want to read too many words.
Accept a Defeat!
As previously mentioned, time is a valuable commodity for MMORPG players, and it should be used effectively. Especially in PvP battles, it can sometimes take a long time. Did your team not score “First Blood” or fail to capture the majority of control points after the start?
Then the battle is of course lost! Directly urge your team not to resist any longer so that the round can end as quickly as possible. Because everyone knows: Better a quick defeat than a lengthy battle. That would ultimately mean uncertainty. With an “Typical Alliance”, “As always when playing with people from Aegwynn”, or “It was so obvious that the Republic would lose again” you make it clear to everyone that it’s not about the opponents, but simply about the wrong choice of faction – then you won’t be quite so sad!
Give Them Valuable Tips!
Once the first hurdles have been overcome and you’ve formed a solid group of players thanks to the above hints, it’s time to give back generously to your fellow players.
Provide them with assistance in difficult game content! Did the rogue stand in the dragon’s fire effect and die from it? Explain politely with a “Lunessa died in the fire” what the mistake was. No, not in the whisper channel. In the group channel, so that everyone knows what happened. It would be a shame if someone is left confused!
But your duty doesn’t end there. You can earn further points in the following way:
Inspect your fellow players’ characters at every opportunity. Check exactly which equipment they are wearing and whether it is optimally enchanted. If you find gaps that you can fix yourself, immediately point it out to the player. Can you craft better equipment or organize an enchantment? Excellent!
It is important that you never offer such services for free. Because then your fellow players lose a great deal of self-esteem. Here the old rule applies: “What costs nothing is worth nothing.” Base your prices on the costs in the auction house and multiply them by 1.5.
Give Your Fellow Players Breaks
Time is a valuable commodity these days. More and more people suffer from stress and burnouts. They should at least be able to switch off during their free time! If you lead an organized life, you can significantly improve your fellow players’ lives. A long raid evening with 10-25 fellow players starts at 8:00 PM and goes until midnight? Order your pizza so that it arrives during the raid time – around 9:00 PM. Because a healthy meal is important, your fellow players will show plenty of understanding and will cheerfully wait half an hour for you.
They will surely thank you for those extra minutes of relaxation.
By the way, you’ll gain even more bonus points as a smoker. Just hammer a “Cigarette break!” in the chat and immediately go afk to enjoy your smoke. The raid leader will also appreciate the five extra minutes of peace.
If you heed these tips, it won’t take long before you have a reverent reputation on your server. This lays the foundation for many years of fun in the game. If you become too popular and no longer want to play the game, you can also just pretend to have a broken arm – it’s always convincing!
