The overall sales figures for the US market in November are now available.
The first forecasts looked bleak for “Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.” This mainly referred to the “box sales” in the US, which were expected to be 50% lower than the CoD title from the previous year.
The digital figures from the NPD Group are also here now – and it still doesn’t look great for Call of Duty. While they are the “winner of the month,” the numbers look rather bleak compared to the predecessor Black Ops 3.
Infinite Warfare is a winner, but somehow not
Infinite Warfare is the best-selling title of the month – in 2nd and 3rd place follow “Pokémon Sun” and “Pokémon Moon.”
However, the top three titles are 43% weaker than the three strongest in 2015, when Black Ops 3, Fallout 4, and Star Wars Battlefront led the way. Thus, this year’s top three titles cannot
keep up, although Pokémon Sun and Moon together represent the most successful launch of the franchise and thus the “winner of hearts.” When combined, they would be ahead of Call of Duty.
19% less revenue from software than in 2015 – The top 3 are too weak this year
The rest of the titles outside the top 3 sold 12% better compared to the previous year. Overall, however, there is a 19% drop compared to software expenditures in November 2015.
This may also be due to the many discounts and sales that the games have already been subject to. Last year, all 3 games were “full-price titles for consoles.”
A positive surprise comes from Titanfall 2. The shooter had a strong second month. This is also due to the great reviews. In the premiere month of October, Titanfall 2 only reached 9th place; now the shooter sits in 5th place.
