In Destiny 2, many theories have suggested that a new focus will be added to the Guardians’ abilities. With Witch Queen, however, it is becoming clearer that perhaps a new element will find its way to the Guardians. Which element this is and what supports this theory, you will find out here on MeinMMO.
What element is it? It is about an unreleased element of Darkness, which the Destiny 2 community refers to as “Vapor” or “Venom”. Many Guardians have noticed since Beyond Light that not only Light can be wielded, but that Darkness also possesses weapons and abilities.
In the form of Stasis, Guardians have made the frozen moon “Europa” unsafe. Many players therefore hoped that another dark element would find its way to the Guardians in the new DLC. Bungie, however, denied this. Nevertheless, many hints suggest that a toxic power will indeed find its way to us in upcoming DLCs.
Vapor or Venom – Also known as the toxic element
The Guardians currently have four elements: Solar, Arc, Void, and Stasis. The community calls “Vapor” the fifth element.
How would Vapor work? This is still unknown from a reliable source, however, fans assume that it is a toxic element. Therefore, it will deal damage over time, possibly transferring it to additional enemies. Just like the Thorn, along with the Warlock arms “Necrotic Grip”.
What supports this theory? These are only theories that have not been confirmed by Bungie. So enjoy them with caution.
All toxic Exotics are connected to Scourge. For this, there are currently and in the future a total of three Exotics:
- Necrotic Grip – Warlock Exo Gloves
- Thorn – Exotic Hand Cannon
- Osteo Striga – Exotic SMG
These are known for weakening and killing enemies with poison. Now, as Bungie introduces Osteo Striga as a toxic weapon into the Guardian arsenal, it suggests that such an element might also exist. However, in Witch Queen, Bungie will likely first be busy with reworking the Light subclasses.
Before Solar and Arc reach status 3.0, Witch Queen will probably have already been released in the last season or even in the next expansion. Thus, Bungie will have enough time to conjure a new element by the next DLC “Lightfall”.
Story-wise, it would be quite plausible: If Savathûn, the Witch Queen, were our enemy, she would be the opponent in the new raid and would, just like Oryx, quickly fall. Guardians never hesitate long, but there is more behind it than just an intrigue they are planning against the Darkness.
It is possible that Savathûn’s Hive will ally with the Guardians, the Fallen from the House of Light, and Caiatl’s Cabal to stand against an even greater power. In doing so, the Guardians might learn about a new power of the Witch Queen that allows them to corrupt enemies.
If the next enemies of the Darkness take on an amorphous form, the 5th element could perhaps be the key to victory.
When could Vapor appear in Destiny 2? Since Bungie has denied its appearance in Witch Queen, a release would logically be possible only starting with Lightfall. However, it is not long until the new DLC appears, which will deliver further details about the story.
What do you think of the theory? Do you find it logical and could it come true? Or do you believe Bungie will stick with Stasis and the Light subclasses 3.0? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
