Who is Gabe Newell? Gabe Logan Newell (59) is an American entrepreneur and co-founder and president of Valve, the company behind DotA2 and the successful platform Steam. Newell is considered an advocate for the PC as the top gaming platform.
He is also known as GabeN and a star of many relevant memes, one of them – Lord Gabe – you can admire in the title image here.
What is he playing on the Steam Deck? At the release of the Steam Deck on February 25, 2022, Gabe Newell was interviewed by IGN. There, he was also asked if and what he would play on the Deck.
In response, GabeN said that he would indeed be gaming on the Deck and even a lot. His current game would be Final Fantasy XIV:
One of my sons recently got excited about Final Fantasy. I was kind of burned out from World of Warcraft. Whenever a new level cap was introduced, I would think “Ah!” and start playing. And after ten minutes, my brain started to meltdown. So I haven’t played any MMOs (RPGs) for a while, but one of my sons is now interested in Final Fantasy.
He was upset with the people he was doing raids with, so he asked: “Okay, I need a lackey. Dad, come and be my lackey. Be my healer who doesn’t let me die when I tank.” So I started playing with him. And from then on, I played a lot of [FFXIV] on the Deck.
For his son, it seems that GabeN has rediscovered his passion for MMORPGs.

What exactly is the Steam Deck? Valve unexpectedly presented a kind of handheld console called Steam Deck in the summer of 2021. The device reminded many users of a more powerful version of the Nintendo Switch Pro.
The handheld is supposed to offer all the functions of a gaming PC without compromise. Most of your Steam games that you currently play on PC are also expected to work on the Steam Deck. On the official site, you can check if this is also true for you and your game collection.
