In Valheim there is a nasty bug that can destroy your entire world. However, you can protect yourself by creating a backup.
What kind of bug is this? In Valheim, players invest a lot of time and effort into building their bases, crafting, and equipping characters. However, a nasty bug is circulating that completely undermines this work.
According to IronGate’s CEO, Richard Svensson, there is currently a bug in Valheim that can delete your worlds and reset your progress back to 0. Svensson warned about the bug on Twitter.
When does the bug occur? However, Richard Svensson wrote on Twitter that the bug seems to occur more frequently when you close the game with ALT + F4. So try to avoid it and close the game via the menu instead.
Currently, it is still unknown under what exact circumstances the bug occurs. However, it seems to be rare, and the developers have not yet managed to reliably reproduce and combat it.
However, there is a way to safeguard yourself and protect your world.
A backup can save your world
How to back up your world: Although the world-destroying bug is nasty, it can be countered relatively easily.
If you haven’t adjusted your save folder for Valheim, then the path to the saved worlds and characters in Valheim should look like this for you:
- C:UsersUsernameAppDataLocalLowIronGateValheim
There you will find the appropriate files and can copy your worlds and characters to a safe folder. If the bug should catch you, you are still safe and can restore your world by copying the backed-up files back.
If you are using a dedicated server, then the backup can be made by the administrator. This can be done via FTP (File Transfer Protocol).
The backup is also recommended by CEO Richard Svensson until the developers find a way to fix the nasty bug.
