A player has found a way to exploit the game mechanics in Valheim for endless resources. To do this, he builds a kind of very grotesque killing machine from simple means that automatically eliminates enemies and provides him with loot.
What kind of device is this? Reddit user Leathermattress calls his creation the “Greydwarf Toaster 5000”. It consists basically of a large hole, a fence, and many campfires. Crafting this “toaster” is relatively easy:
- find a spawner – these are objects in the world where enemies continuously appear
- dig a pit around the spawner with the pickaxe without destroying it. Here you can learn how to get your first pickaxe in Valheim
- build campfires around the pillar on which the spawner should now stand
- put up fences (Skigard) so that the fires are enclosed
- alternatively, build palisades or stakes around the pit if you are worried the fence won’t hold
This construct allows you to simply wait until the enemies die and then collect their loot. You don’t have to fight. You can see what it looks like in the embedded reddit post here:

How does it work? In Valheim, there are so-called “spawners” around which enemies reappear regularly until they are destroyed. The enemies always spawn close to the spawner and only begin moving shortly after.
However, since a hole has been dug around the spawner in this case, the enemies fall directly into the pit. There, burning fires surrounded by a fence wait. The fire continuously deals damage to them and slowly kills them, while the fence prevents them from escaping.
All enemies in Valheim leave loot behind, and when they die through this “toaster”, you can collect everything they leave behind. This can be quite rewarding.
Farm endless resources without fighting
What resources can I farm? Depending on which area you are in and which spawners you find, you can get different resources. The most commonly found spawners are:
- Greydwarf nests for various greydwarfs – a source primarily for resin, wood, and greydwarf eyes for portals
- Bone piles for skeletons – providing you with bone fragments
- Corpse piles for draugrs – good for entrails

These “toasters” are well-received as an idea in the community, even though they look a bit brutal. Considering that the greydwarfs were serious criminals, murderers, and similar in their past lives, many players do not take this treatment too harshly. Still, it all somewhat reminds one of the chamber of another player, where he tortures these greydwarfs.
