Many players have completed Valheim by now and are still waiting for the first major content update from the developers. However, that will take some time. Nevertheless, there is new content, just no official one. Some mods finally breathe life into the previously unused areas of Valheim.
What is this new content? The mod “Forgotten Biomes” from modder Alree makes the northern and southern parts of the map more vibrant. At the poles of the disc world of Valheim are the Ash Lands and the Deep North.
Both areas are already in the game and accessible, but still empty. There are a few scattered standard enemies and an unusable ore, but nothing more. With “Forgotten Biomes,” both the Ash Lands and the Deep North receive new content, such as:
- Ore deposits of various kinds
- Resources like stones
- Vegetation
- Spawn points for enemies
- Special locations like castles, ruins, and more
In addition, the biomes have special effects. Just like it always rains in the swamp, there is an ash rain in the Ash Lands. The rain and the area set you on fire continuously if you don’t use fire protection or stand in water. You can get fire protection from mead, for example. In our guide, you can learn how to make mead and wine.
Fire Dragons and Burning Skeletons
This is how the biomes become even more lively: If you want to find not only resources but also enemies in the biomes, the mod “Monsternomicon” will help you. This mod brings some new enemy types for the Ash Lands and the ocean:
- Storm Herald Wyvern (Ocean)
- Drowned Soul (Ocean)
- Surtlings and Elder Surtlings (Ash Lands)
- Ash Eater Nymphs and Ash Eater Tadpoles (Ash Lands)
- Burning Bones (Ash Lands)
- Fire Breather Dragon (Ash Lands)
The creator emphasizes that he has a lot of fun programming and wants to bring more enemies in the “not too distant future,” perhaps even for the Deep North.
How do I get the new content? You can find both mods on NexusMods:
You may need additional mods for the listed ones to work. More details can be found on the respective pages. In our guide, you can learn how to install mods for Valheim.
If you want to get even more out of the areas and Valheim, you can also turn Valheim into a real role-playing game with classes and quests.
New Content – What’s Coming in Valheim?
The two areas are unofficial content made by fans. The developers are still working on improving Valheim and fixing bugs. After all, the game is still in Early Access despite all its success on Steam.
Next up is the update “Hearth and Home,” which is supposed to improve crafting, building, and cooking. However, when exactly the update will arrive is still unknown.
Many players have now achieved everything they can or want to in Valheim. They are now eagerly waiting for more content. Some of this new content can already be explored now to prepare for what’s to come. However, you should have a certain resistance to disgust:
Valheim is getting a new area, but it will surely disgust you
