The first major update “Hearth & Home” for Valheim is coming. The developers are still revealing new content that will be coming. And in the latest video about the upcoming features, there’s a quite strange function: You can vomit.
Excuse me? You read that right. Valheim allows you, with Hearth & Home, to vomit on demand. There’s a new food item, the “bukeperries.” These grant you the debuff “Feeling sick”.
If you snack on the new berries, your stomach contents will empty in a rather unappetizing stream, even collecting at your feet. The developers note that you might not want to stand near your friends when this happens.
This is one of the innovations concerning the comprehensive overhaul of the food system, but what initially sounds like a quirky gag is actually not so foolish.
Why is this useful? The feature does indeed serve a purpose, as food works in a special way in Valheim. When you eat a meal, you receive its effect for a certain period of time.
However, you can only eat three types of food at the same time. After that, you are full and cannot eat anything more. The downside now is: if you eat something “cheap” with bad buffs, you have to digest it before better food can be taken in.
If you have just eaten but suddenly find yourself facing tough enemies or want to take on one of the bosses of Valheim, the food can be a hindrance. At the press of a button, you can now “reset” your stomach and slam down new buffs.

Hearth & Home brings tons of new stuff
What else is in the update? Hearth & Home is all about… well, home and hearth. The first major update for Valheim mainly brings new recipes for food and more building options:
- Cooking stations will now be upgraded like other workbenches
- new recipes are coming and will be changed – for example, bread must be baked
- more building parts so you can create even crazier structures
Especially with building, many players will be pleased. Creating large artworks or even recreating landmarks like the Stormwind Harbor have been popular activities since the release of Valheim.
Additionally, the combat system is being revised. Shields and blocks will have a slightly altered function, and you can now play like an actual tank (via GameStar.de).
When will Hearth & Home be released? After a long wait, the release of Hearth & Home has been set for September 16, 2021. The release was announced with its own Viking anime at gamescom.
This means the first content update for Valheim will be released about half a year after its launch, and many players are eagerly awaiting new content. However, after Hearth & Home, there will be more to come. Valheim is still in early access and is continually being expanded.
It is already known that new biomes with new bosses will be coming: Ashlands, Deep North, and Mistlands. While these are already found in the game but empty, there are first hints that the Mistlands will be quite disgusting.
