In a new Dev update, the Valheim developers from Iron Gate Studios commented on the current status of the Viking game. They also gave insight into how the success of Valheim has changed the studio. A recent example is a real horse that the studio has purchased.
Since the release of Valheim, the game has been incredibly successful, selling over 6.8 million copies (via PCGamer.com). For a small developer like Iron Gate, this obviously means significant changes. In the latest update, the developers revealed what’s next.
While they are still working from home due to the pandemic, they are already looking for a suitable office. They also want to hire new talent. Furthermore, the developers are already welcoming their first “new team member”: Valheim the horse. Yes. A real horse.
Valheim developers buy Valheim, the horse, for riding school
Why is the studio buying a real horse? Those who had images of a horse living in an office building in their heads might be a bit disappointed.
The purchased horse, a pony, is not intended for the developers themselves but is part of a collaboration between Iron Gate Studios and the Swedish riding school “Skövde ryttarförening” (Skövde Riding Club).
Unfortunately, this horse will not be able to participate in the studio’s future projects, but at least it will improve team chemistry on outings. The statement says: “In a way, we have already received a new team member, say hello to Valheim, the horse!”
You will be seeing Valheim more often when the developers are on outings. They emphasize that this is not an indication that horses are now in development for the game.
Roadmap for Valheim and future updates
What’s next for Valheim? The developers have already revealed that some time ago in a roadmap. Hearth and Home is currently the first update in development.
Iron Gate also commented: “The update is gradually taking shape, and last month was very productive as many new items and mechanics were completed. Of course, there are still many things we want to do before the update is released, as we don’t want to rush it.”
At the beginning of June, there should be more concrete information about the first major update of Valheim.
