Valheim turned one year old on February 2, 2022. The survival MMO has surprisingly delighted many hundreds of thousands of players. Now, there is a status update for the upcoming content with a preview of the new updates.
What updates are coming? Specifically, two new updates are mentioned that the developers are currently working on:
- the Mountains Update
- the Mistlands, the first new biome of the game
Both updates are likely already included in the original roadmap shortly after release – assuming the Mountains Update will indeed be “Cult of the Wolf.” At least, wolves can be found in the Mountain biome, which supports this claim.
What’s included in the updates? The Mountains Update aims to make the eponymous biome more lively. There will be caves and dungeons where wolves and other creatures reside. This means you won’t just have to go into the mountains for some silver or to fight Moder, but can also explore a bit.
The Mistlands is the first new biome that is already present in the game. However, there’s currently nothing to see except spider webs. Presumably, there will be thematic elements of spiders, insects, and enchanted materials here.
There isn’t much more information available yet, except that the concepts for the Mistlands are now complete. There’s even a first image of a moth that is supposed to be found there. Now the team is working on new parts, enemies, and mechanics, which they yet do not want to discuss.
Moth memes for Valheim’s birthday
This is how the community reacts: The Vikings are primarily focusing on the new creature. The moth-like beast immediately evokes flashbacks of the worst enemies in Valheim: Deathskitos.
These creatures are tiny but absolutely deadly. Fans are now hoping that the moths will not be quite as unfair. Valheim can already be tough at times, almost unfair. However, many seem to want to explore the Mistlands first and not fear for their lives.
The moth is perfect for memes – after all, “Moth memes” are already popular on the internet. Accordingly, the comparisons didn’t take long to appear:
When will the updates arrive? So far, there is no date for the new content. The Mountains Update is currently getting the “final touches,” but the Mistlands will probably take longer. If we orient ourselves by the first major update Hearth & Home, which came half a year after release, you can expect the Mistlands in September.
However, since the team has become significantly larger, the updates could also come faster. We expect more content by early summer at the latest, probably sooner with the Mountains Update. In the meantime, you can keep yourself entertained with Valheim itself or other top survival games:
