In the survival game Valheim, you can enjoy many freedoms and discover something new time and again. With the wishbone, you can find not only silver but also hidden treasures. In the MeinMMO guide, we explain how to get the wishbone and how to use it.
What is the wishbone? The wishbone (eng. “Wishbone”) is a piece of equipment that you receive from the third boss, the Bone Wasp. It allows you to find silver veins and hidden treasures in a radius of about 20 meters.
Where can I find it? You can currently only obtain the wishbone from the Bone Wasp. This boss drops the item once you have defeated him. You can find the third boss in the swamp biome. In our Valheim boss guide, you can learn how to summon and defeat him.
How the wishbone is used in Valheim
The wishbone is a detector that shows you valuable items and resources in the immediate vicinity. To use it, you must select it in your inventory and equip it by right-clicking.
The wishbone occupies the same equipment slot as the Megingjord belt, so you cannot use both at the same time.
The belt is sold by the merchant Haldor and increases your weight limit from 300 to 450 points. This is especially beneficial when mining ore or transporting heavy dragon eggs.
How does the wishbone work? Once you have equipped the wishbone and are near silver, buried treasures, or muddy scrap piles, it activates. An acoustic ping gives you a clue as to how close you are to the target. In addition to the acoustic signal, light rays escape from the wishbone, which also indicate the location of the target.
The closer you are to the target, the shorter the intervals of both signals. If you are directly above the treasure, the wishbone pings continuously.
How to find the target faster: The wishbone does not directly show you the way to the target. Remember the position you are in and then move in a cardinal direction. If you move away from the target, the readings of the wishbone will decrease. If this is the case, return to your starting point and repeat the process in a different direction.
If you find a point where the wishbone reads stronger, repeat the process described above. This way, you will find buried treasures much faster.
How to find silver: To obtain silver, you can dig for it in the mountain biome at random with a pickaxe, or use the wishbone. This reliably indicates silver veins, and searching in the coldest biome of Valheim does not take too much time.
The radius of the wishbone extends like a sphere in all directions. Therefore, it is not unusual for it to activate on a mountainside and you need to carve your way down.
If you suspect a deposit nearby, use the iron pickaxe and remove several layers of rock. If the wishbone activates more strongly, the deposit is in close proximity.
The wishbone also activates if you have already excavated the silver deposit. This makes searching for further silver veins or treasures more difficult. Therefore, we advise you to completely mine the deposits before you use the wishbone again.
Since silver is heavy, you can build a small base. All you need is a workbench, four walls, and a few chests to store the resources.
In which biomes does the wishbone work: The wishbone can be equipped regardless of the biome. In our tests for this guide, we found treasures and resources with the wishbone in various biomes:
- Swamp biome: muddy scrap pile – iron scrap
- Mountain biome: silver veins, skeleton remains
- Dark Forest: buried treasure
- Meadow Forest: buried treasure
Skeleton remains and buried treasures yield random loot upon looting:
- Fire arrows
- Rubies
- Silver necklaces
- Amber and pearls
- Gold coins
