Valheim has announced its first major update Hearth & Home in a new blog post, including release and content. The update is mainly aimed at the Viking builders, but also provides fresh content for everyone.
When is the update coming? In a post on Steam, the developers of Valheim announced that Hearth & Home is supposed to be released in the third quarter of 2021 (via steampowered.com). That would be between July 1 and September 30 – potentially quite soon. The delay is mainly due to wanting to fix bugs first.
At the same time, they informed the community that they cannot keep the promised four updates this year. The roadmap will be revised accordingly. They also said they simply were not prepared for the influx of players who now want more.
What’s in Hearth & Home? In the developers’ post, they also introduce some of the new content. The new content is mainly aimed at players who use the building system of Valheim – which is likely a large part of the community:
- new building components for roofs and windows made from “Darkwood”
- expansions for the cooking station: a spice rack, a slaughter table, pots and pans
- onions for planting – players already want to grow new fruits and vegetables
Additionally, there will be new foods and an overhauled system of stamina and health points. Food is an important factor in Valheim’s combat and provides you with strong buffs. With Hearth & Home, it should be possible to play a proper tank.

The list is not yet complete. The mentioned features are merely a preview of what is to come, the developers said.
Vikings hunger for new content
Valheim was released in February 2021 out of nowhere and became a huge success, even ranking in the top 5 on Steam for a while. Several million Vikings have jumped into the world daily, farming, building, and fighting.
The survival game has numerous content for solo and co-op players, including five bosses that serve as the final challenge of their respective areas (“biomes”). In this way, Valheim is more or less divided into chapters.
However, many players have now “completed” everything and defeated all bosses. Currently, they only have the option to build more, make Valheim more exciting with mods or reinvent themselves.
Many are waiting for new content, which is finally supposed to come with Hearth & Home. Even content after the first update is already known, although its release is not yet announced. This includes three new biomes that you can already explore. However, the next one will probably not please many of you:
