The survival game V Rising (PC), which was newly released in May, was an absolute hit on Steam at launch. In a new blog post, the developers are now discussing the first major update, which brings a new biome, more building options, and additional content.
What is V Rising?
- V Rising was released on May 17 on Steam with 88% positive ratings and over 150,000 players (via steamcharts).
- In the survival game, you play as a vampire who has been stripped of their powers. In an attempt to regain your former strength, you search for special blood and build your own castle as a seat of power.
- V Rising comes from the indie studio Stunlock Studios in Sweden and features an action-packed combat system similar to Bloodline Champions and Battlerite. The game is among our best survival games for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.
Current status of the game: V Rising was released as an Early Access game and is still under development since its release. There is a lot for new players to do, but the content is simply exhausted after a couple of dozen hours.
Especially fans of the game have feared that V Rising would die quickly. In fact, the number of players has significantly decreased, but the numbers are still impressive: over 11,300 players were still active at their peak in November 2022 (via steamcharts).
Furthermore, the promised new content is on its way. The developers announced a Dev Update on December 8, 2022 in their blog and discussed the first major update there.
Here you can find all the info about V Rising in 2 minutes:
New Biome, New Bosses, and Better Building
These are the highlights of the update: The two main features are a new biome and the expansion of the building system. The castles, for which the game is often praised, can now be equipped with multiple levels with the new update. However, the new biome is not further explained.
With a teaser image, the developers hint at a connection to Dr. Frankenstein’s famous experiments. What exactly is coming here, we do not know yet. However, they have previously proven that they deal with folklore and stories:
Additional new content includes:
- new locations
- new enemy types
- terrain variations
- at least one new boss from whom you will gain special abilities (“V Blood”)
- a new “jewels” system that allows you to enhance your abilities
- roaming merchants
- improved and revamped systems
The contents shown are said by the developers to be only part of what is yet to come. They are making an effort to listen to the community, revise existing features, and bring new content.
When will the update come? The update is expected to be released in early 2023, but there is no exact date yet. The content will be completely free of charge, so you won’t have to pay anything. V Rising itself currently costs €19.99 on Steam.
However, those who want to check out the update will have to start anew. Official servers will be wiped, and new content will not be available with old save files. The timing would be ideal if you want to check out the game in 2023, but starting is always possible:
Can I still start with the new Steam hit V Rising now, or will everyone beat me up?
