This is how you use Threads in Germany: Depending on whether you use an Android or iOS phone, you will proceed differently:
- With Android, you download the APK of Threads. An APK is an installation file with which you can install the app on your phone. You won’t find the app in the German Google Play Store. Then, you need to allow the installation of apps from unknown sources in your settings.
- With iOS, you need to change the country in the App Store. In the USA and the UK, you can already download the app. However, this is not quite easy, as the US site requires an American credit card.
A VPN service is also recommended. The VPN makes it look like you are in a different country than you actually are, to the app or website. Either the USA or the UK is recommended, as Threads is available there. It doesn’t matter much which service you choose.
Will Threads ever officially come to Germany? Many suspect that Meta/Facebook wants to try the service first and will wait to see how strong the response to Threads is. Europe may still be an option afterward. However, that is not certain.
