A player installed his gaming PC in the outer wall of a house for a school project. What looks impressive actually serves a purpose: The owner wants to cool his PC with outside air.
Regularly, players present impressive gaming systems. To stand out from others, one doesn’t just use the best and fastest hardware but also comes up with a particularly ingenious setup.
A user has integrated his gaming PC into a house wall to allow his system to be cooled by outside air.
Converted old mailbox into a gaming PC
How did the user do that? He explains himself on reddit that the hole was already in the wall, as there used to be a mailbox there. He renovated it for his purposes and installed his gaming PC. Through the old slot of the mailbox, he can exhaust the hot air and cool the PC. He explains:
For a school project, I created this original setup. I had an old mailbox in my student room (a large hole in the wall with a slot).
The concept is that in winter, fresh air from outside is used to passively cool the PC via liquid cooling, and in summer, the air is expelled outside so it doesn’t accumulate in my room (because I don’t have windows that open, so it gets hot in summer).
What are the reactions? Many users are quite impressed by the computer system in the wall and praise the creativity of the user.
However, some believe that the execution is not perfect. The fan is visible and accessible to anyone on the outside wall. It would only take one idiot to come up with a stupid idea, and the entire system would be over. Others joke that sooner or later it would be stolen. Someone asks, ‘Aren’t you afraid someone might steal it?’
Moreover, the system is hardly protected against severe weather. Someone explains that he “would add some kind of hood over it to protect the outside fan from the elements because I can imagine that after the first rain shower, the fans would need to be replaced.”
The own gaming PC is a creative playground for many owners
Why do users modify their computers? Gaming PCs are an opportunity for many players to express their creativity. Many gamers find it insufficient to simply park a black or white box under the table and then play new AAA titles with it.
Many players come up with various ideas, and several manufacturers feed the desire for people to own a special PC:
- Computer cases with large viewing windows where you can admire the hardware.
- RGB setup on motherboards, graphics cards, RAM, and coolers.
- Special kits to make cables or other obstructive objects disappear, thereby creating a particularly clean setup.
- Nowadays, there are also manufacturers that offer special gaming systems on legs to convince buyers. Other people prefer to hang their gaming PC directly on the wall.
Some users, however, find such small upgrades insufficient. They immediately modify the entire case. Quickly, the gaming PC is remodeled into a futuristic shark, or the PC is converted into a toaster or a sci-fi playground. When it comes to gaming systems, some players know few limits. Nowadays, there are also major championships where the best “builders” compete with their artworks.
Another brilliant setup: A YouTuber has come up with a particularly sophisticated idea to achieve a special “clean” setup. “Clean” means that all distracting things, like cables and co, disappear from the desk. On MeinMMO you can read and see how the YouTuber did it:
