You should not accept damaged packages
What should I do if my package is damaged? If your package arrives in a terrible condition, you should not accept it under any circumstances. Sometimes damages are only conditionally visible externally. If you open the package at home and then notice damages, you should report this quickly. You can make a claim for damages to the package contents up to seven days after receipt.
Consumer advocates also advise unboxing the package in the presence of the delivery person (via verbraucherzentrale-niedersachsen.de). Because with the signature, the recipient confirms not only receipt but also that the package arrived properly and in good condition.
This is particularly tricky nowadays, where parcel delivery services increasingly rely on delivery authorizations and therefore no longer require a signature for delivery.
