In the beta of World of Warcraft Dragonflight, Shamans are currently racing through the game world. A small bug gives them more than 5,000% movement speed.
The beta of WoW: Dragonflight has been active for a few weeks, and overall it seems everything is developing splendidly. The quests are being cleared of last-minute bugs, talent trees are being adjusted, and more and more bugs are being fixed. But sometimes a new bug sneaks in – leading to absurd results. Shamans are currently the fastest class in World of Warcraft. This is likely due to a “slight typo” by a developer.
What happened? When Shamans shift into their Ghost Wolf form, they can benefit from a new talent named “Thunderous Paws.” The talent is supposed to increase the movement speed of the Ghost Wolf by 25% in the first 3 seconds.
However, it seems a developer made a small mistake when entering the values internally, as instead of 25%, the Ghost Wolf temporarily increases speed by a whopping 5,000%! This allows the Shaman to cover gigantic distances within those 3 seconds, such as across half of the Barrens.
How crazy this looks is shown in various clips from clearly amused Shaman players in the WoW subreddit.
How the community is reacting: As expected, they are taking it quite amusingly. Some of the comments in the subreddit include:
- “Imagine you’re doing PvP, you’re about to win, and then the Shaman activates the Looney Tunes Roadrunner Turbo.”
- “I hope they keep it in. It will really be useful when I want to run away from the meeting stone because they noticed I’m Enhancement and don’t appear in the M+ meta.”
- “Another 10% more and he would be as fast as a Demon Hunter. :)”
Is this going live? No, of course not. Such speed is not only absolutely overpowered but also leads to various bugs in the game. For instance, it can happen that textures or objects are not loaded at all as fast as the character rushes through the map.
That bugs and errors occur during a beta is quite normal – but having them turn out this strangely doesn’t happen very often. Especially since beta tests at Blizzard are generally already quite polished.
If you want to get into the beta yourself, we’ll tell you here how you can still sign up for the test. With a little luck, you’ll be in!
