A group of H1Z1 players were annoyed that they were taken out by an invisible developer who didn’t even know he had activated his superpower.
When game developers stream themselves and show proximity to the players, it is often something special for the community. However, when the developer runs around with “cheats” on the servers, it is special in a different way: annoying for those involved and funny for the viewers.
Invisible with the shotgun
Joshua Kriegshauser is the Technical Director at H1Z1 and often streams the battle royale game on Twitch. Recently, while playing and livestreaming with his friends, he apparently forgot to turn off his “superpower.”
After he attacked a group of players, he realized something was not quite right.
When he saw the player group in the distance, the developer pursued them with his police car, jumped out of the car, and pumped the surprised players full of buckshot. But then he noticed that they seemed to ignore him and turn their backs on him.
Then the players suddenly called out over H1Z1’s voice chat: “Why are you cheating?” “A developer who cheats?!”
This left the developer surprised and a bit shocked, causing him to pause. He stopped shooting. Worried, he asked the player group if they couldn’t see him. Kriegshauser realized the problem “Oh my God! Am I still invisible?”
Quickly, he opened the game console and deactivated the developer ability that made him invisible to opponents. The group reacted with a mix of joy and anger. After the clip shown, a player emerged from behind the police car and gunned down the developer.
Kriegshauser commented, embarrassed, “Yes, you earned that kill.” and apologized again to the group.
After the match, he played a few more matches and waved to the players in the starting area. With that, he likely wanted to ensure they could really see him.
