The online game ARK: Survival Evolved has received an update after some time. With this, you get more options for building and the “Kibble” system for taming dinos has been revised – leading to heated discussions in the community.
What does the new update bring to the game? The Homestead-update mainly focuses on making it easier for players to build.
- The placement of buildings has been improved.
- You use new objects like additional walls, floors, ceilings, and more to create your dream building.
- Wires and pipes can be flexibly placed, allowing for new electrical configurations.
- Old buildings are available in visually new variants.
What is interesting about these improvements? The developers have relied on a mod from the community for the improvements. Large parts of “Structures Plus (S+)”-sponsored mod by Orionsun are used to enhance the building system. As a result, ARK players on consoles now also have the opportunity to use these features which were previously only available to the PC faction through the mod.
The taming of dinos has changed
What else does the update bring? Homestead also revises the Kibble system through which you tame dinos in the game. Now you no longer need different food for each of the creatures, which could previously get a bit out of hand.
Instead, the dinos are divided into six categories and an egg from each category can be used for taming dinos that belong to that category.
How is the update received by players? The new Kibble system has caused some excitement among players. There is much discussion about it on Reddit.
Many find the new system a bit opaque and some miss setting up a “production chain” that was previously needed for taming.
Tankbot85 writes on Reddit: “I hate the new Kibble system. I loved creating Kibble chains. This destroys a big part of the PvE fun.”

Additionally, there are many reports of crashes since the last update and bugs are appearing, for example with the new Kibble system. There are also problems with the
“Structures Plus (S+)”-system, which is generally well received.
This apparently does not seem to be compatible with the objects from the mod. However, the developers want to look into these issues.
