Almost 5 years ago, Blizzard announced that they wanted to implement a feature in the games that would allow players to be “invisible”. This way, they do not appear on the Battle.net friends list. For those who just want to casually play a few rounds of Hearthstone without interacting with other people, this option is just right.
Blizzard has now activated the feature in the beta of the Battle.net app. Those who want can already switch and make use of the “Invisible” feature!
To do this, simply click on the “Blizzard” symbol in the top left of the app, select “Settings” from the menu, and finally choose the sub-item “Beta”. With one more click, you can download the beta version of the app. After installation, you can set yourself to “show as offline” in the upper right – and play undisturbed when people are being annoying.
Restricted Functionality in World of Warcraft
In World of Warcraft, however, the feature works only partially. Other players in the Battle.net friends list will not be notified that you are playing World of Warcraft, but they can notice it in other ways. Since the character still joins chat channels, appears online in the guild, or is simply on someone else’s friends list, they will still appear there.
The general rule here is: Players who are in a different game than you cannot see if you are currently online.
In America, they are already testing new social features of the Battle.net app. These strongly resemble the software Discord. You can join different groups that have multiple chat and voice channels. In this context, moderation rights can be granted by the admin. However, these features are not yet available in Europe but are sure to follow in the coming weeks.
