In a landfill in Texas, someone found boxes of Magic: The Gathering trading cards. He took a photo and later learned on reddit how much the cards would have been worth.
The reddit user “Latin0” is currently unloading his trash at a landfill when he sees a few Magic: The Gathering cards. Shortly after, he discovers 6 boxes filled with packaged trading cards.
What kind of cards are they? Magic: The Gathering is a well-known trading card game, that has existed for over 30 years. The cards vary in strength and therefore vary in value – The card “Black Lotus” is the most famous and is traded for tens of thousands of dollars.
When he learns of their value, the cards are destroyed
Latin0 photographs the cards but only takes a few packs with him. In a post on reddit, he shares his find – And gets informed.
Other users explain to him that the cards would have been worth between $100,000 and $250,000 if he had taken them.
When angry collectors arrive at the landfill the next day to search for the Magic Cards, it is already too late: The boxes and their contents have been flattened by bulldozers. The cards are said to be beyond saving. “Don’t come here and try to look for them. They are all ruined,” LATIN0 adds. He also later returned to the dump.
The post has now received 3,400 upvotes and 355 comments on reddit. Among them are many estimates of what the cards might have been worth and discussions about the most valuable Magic Cards.
