Good news for all hunters in World of Warcraft: With the upcoming expansion Warlords of Draenor, pets will finally learn the meaning of the words “Play dead.”
The play dead skill for hunters is a completely logical and useful skill in PvE that frees the hunter from all aggro should they be in danger of overnuking. It is also often used to save repair costs. Particularly popular: When there is actually no wipe, but the hunter still decides to bail.
In the arena or in PvP, the play dead skill has always suffered from the fact that the pet stood by alive while the hunter crouched on the ground in death agony. Typically, the pet dies with its master or mistress and despawns. So the trick with “playing dead” in the arena only worked if you let the pet die beforehand or didn’t bring it at all. With Warlords of Draenor, that will come to an end: The pet will finally play dead together with the hunter and mark the dying swan, the dying cat, or the dying boar. But only if the hunter glyphs the corresponding trait.
