Last night, Ubisoft made the announcement that all The Division 2 fans have been waiting for: There will be a “The Division 3” and Massive Entertainment will be actively involved in the development. However, the revelation of this good news was unclear and extremely unremarkable.
What did Ubisoft reveal about “The Division 3”? In an official announcement on the Ubisoft website, it was revealed that Julian Gerighty has been appointed as Executive Producer for all current and future “The Division” games.
Ubisoft stated that he will be responsible for “The Division 2”, the mobile game “Tom Clancy’s The Division Resurgence“, the survival action shooter “Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland“, and surprisingly also for “Tom Clancy’s The Division 3”.
- As the new Executive Producer, he will drive the project “Tom Clancy’s The Division 3”, which will once again be led by Massive Entertainment.
- At the same time, he is also tasked with ensuring that “Tom Clancy’s The Division 2” continues to receive solid support.
This was undoubtedly the most unremarkable announcement of a sequel that could be made for “The Division 3”.
Thus, it is official, and with “Tom Clancy’s The Division 3” a sequel will come that many fans of the franchise have been waiting and hoping for. And it shows that Ubisoft will finally place the leadership and development of The Division series back into experienced hands.

Massive wants to raise quality standards again
That’s why it could be really good: The first two parts of the series enjoyed great popularity, but recently Ubisoft’s decisions regarding The Division 2 have met with increasingly negative reactions from fans.
This went so far that even the most loyal YouTuber turned away from the game and had enough of the developer’s consistent approach of empty promises, excuses, and delays.
With the return of Julian Gerighty, this could now change – at least some fans hope so. They are already dreaming of wandering through a snowy version of Boston or Chicago with their weapon.
However, the outlook for a specific timeline for the sequel looks less than promising.
When can we expect the sequel? The announcement states that Julian Gerighty is initially supposed to focus on building a team for “The Division 3”. So everything is still purely in the planning phase.
Additionally, Massive Entertainment has just finished developing the open-world game “Star Wars Outlaws” and is also overseeing that.
Some players therefore suspect that a playable version of “The Division 3” is at least two years away, and that’s already an incredibly ambitious timeline.

Even YouTuber and former Division player Charles sees it similarly: “[One will] probably dedicate The Division 2 for another one and a half to two years before The Division 3 is released. Then we are already in 2026. […]”
He also addresses a major wish of many players, which is that they hope Massive will listen more to the players, that they will have a larger team again, and that the game will be playable cross-play.
At least the announcement of The Division 3 is a promising start to an uncertain future. And fans can hardly wait to learn more about this project and where this new journey will lead.
