Ubisoft has once again disappointed the loyal fans of The Division 2 with a new announcement. They are now expressing their frustration.
How has Ubisoft disappointed the fans? Ubisoft announced on January 28, 2025, that the release of the next major expansion has been delayed again.
- The team decided to take additional time to further refine the DLC to provide the best possible gaming experience.
- Ubisoft did not announce a release date for the expansion. However, the developers indicated that the DLC will not be released during Year 6, which started in July 2024.
The expansion was already announced in April 2023 during the Division Day and was originally supposed to be released during the 5th year. In addition to a narrative continuation of the story, the DLC is also expected to offer new zones, main operations, and endgame structures.
The renewed delay frustrates the loyal fans of the loot shooter, who have now been waiting almost 2 years for the new expansion since its announcement in 2023.
Players Doubt Whether the DLC Really Exists
What are the players saying? They are disappointed and angry. The Reddit user “Barrtek” expresses outrage at the renewed delays (via Reddit) and “theoutsider95” thinks that Ubisoft should move on to The Division 3 at this point.
Some fans are also upset that Ubisoft has invested resources in games like the ending XDefiant and the financially disappointing Star Wars: Outlaws instead of working on new Division games. One user rants:
“I hate that they basically scrapped completely finished games from the Division series to instead promote other random crap that hasn’t worked. Heartland, the mobile game, I played the beta for both and they felt finished, where did they go? They were scrapped for XDefiant and God knows what else.” – (via Reddit)
Another user fears that the DLC could negatively impact the development of The Division 3: “They should never have wasted time on the DLC […]. I’m worried that this harms TD3 and the future of the franchise at this point.”
Some comments also question the existence of the DLC. And if it does exist, players believe that the release will certainly be delayed again and pushed back to at least 2026 or Year 8.
This is what’s currently happening at Ubisoft: Ubisoft is currently in a financially difficult situation due to some failures. Among them:
- The years-delayed Skull & Bones flopped
- Sales figures for Star Wars Outlaws were not high enough
- XDefiant did not become the successful service game that was hoped for, to be played over many years
Lastly, the closure of the studio in Leamington and the layoffs of 185 employees were also announced (via Eurogamer)
The future of Ubisoft currently seems very uncertain. Experts believe that a sale of the company could be on the horizon if the downward trend cannot be stopped. Alternatively, Ubisoft could divest IPs to prevent a sale. Industry insider Jason Schreier believes anyway: Ubisoft has only one chance in 2025 – and next month could determine the future of the company
