Ubisoft China and Sheepedia have teamed up for some products. Included is a coffee mug that reportedly had a bug in production. And it’s incredibly funny and probably a clever PR gag.
What are Ubisoft China and Sheepedia doing? Ubisoft is usually known for its many games. These include Far Cry, Division, and also Assassins Creed. The studio is often said to have bugs and glitches.
Ubisoft China has now started a collaboration with the clothing brand Sheepedia. This has resulted in some clothing items and the aforementioned buggy mug with a ridiculous production error.
The coffee mug as self-ironic PR
What kind of mug is this? The handle of the coffee cup is pushed inward due to a bug in production. Oops! In retrospect, the companies apologized, stating that the mug could not be offered for sale.
The industry analyst Daniel Ahmad suspects this is a PR gag and tweets:
He states that Ubisoft China is known for pulling off such gags, especially now in relation to the clothes that were recently announced. And it works; the community is talking about it.
Is this the first incident? With the mug’s production bug, Ubisoft is showing some self-irony. Last year, there was already a similar gag. At ChinaJoy, an event somewhat comparable to E3, they built a glitch into the booth. There, a table was sticking out of the wall.

The community as fans of the mug
The image of the crazy mug with a bug spread quickly over Twitter, Reddit, and 9GAG.
While some mock Ubisoft, whether in jest or seriously, is up for debate. The phrase “Typical Ubisoft” is often mentioned, or that the whole thing represents Ubisoft well:
The mug really sums up Ubisoft as a whole.

Most in the community, however, are excited about the mug. They wish to be able to purchase the cup. Or they celebrate the studio’s irony and the funny gag. Some even propose a solution. Thus, NintendojoFR tweets the following image with the quote “fixed”:
We can be curious about what Ubisoft China will come up with next and whether the mug will really be offered for sale. This wouldn’t be the first coffee mug with the handle inward, but it would certainly be the most famous.
