In a comprehensive blog post, the developers from Ubisoft have commented on the future of Tom Clancy’s The Division. Part of this future will be a new free-to-play game. And that’s not where it ends.
This is what the developers say: As emphasized in the post, a large community has been built over the past years with The Division and The Division 2, which will now be provided with new content.
In addition to working on The Division 2, they have also looked at other projects. This includes a new game: Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland.
What is The Division Heartland? So far, information about the new game is still scarce. It is certain that it is a free-to-play game in the Division universe, produced by the Red Storm studio.
The developers emphasize that it will be a standalone game, equipped with its own setting and perspective on the Division universe. Prior knowledge from the previous parts will not be necessary.
When will Heartland be released? The release of The Division Heartland is expected to take place in the period 2021 / 2022 for PC, consoles, and cloud services. Those who want to get in earlier can already register for potential tests.
To do this, simply log in on the official registration page (via Ubisoft) with your Ubisoft account and then select the appropriate platform. Options include PC, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Once that’s done, you’ll be entered into the pool of possible testers. Further information will then be provided by email in due course.
However, Heartland is not the only new addition in the Division universe.
The Division is expanding with film, book, and mobile spin-off
What else is coming? In the announcement, the developers talk about other projects that are set to expand the Division universe. A clear timeline shows how the universe is to be expanded:
This includes, for example, a Division film being developed in collaboration with Netflix. Here, they have managed to secure big names: Jessica Chastain (Golden Globe winner) and Jake Gyllenhaal (Spider-Man: Far From Home) are reportedly on board as actors.
Additionally, The Division is getting a mobile spin-off. The developers, however, want to provide more details at a later time.
A book that is set to pick up directly at the end of The Division 2’s story is also in the works.
Last but not least – and as already known – The Division 2 will also receive another update in 2021. This update is expected to include a new mode, as well as new methods for leveling up agents and creating variable builds. You can find out here how things will continue with The Division 2 in 2021.
