In the bot lane of League of Legends , a ranged champion with attack damage (AD-Carry) is usually employed. However, the highest win rates are currently held by a mage and a supporter, who are taking the position of the AD-Carry. The players have identified the champion Senna as the villain.
What kind of duo is this? In the current patch 12.12, Tahm Kench has a win rate of 56.52% in the bot lane, and Seraphine has a win rate of 54.49% – when looking at games in the Platinum league or higher (via u.gg).
This makes them not only the strongest champions in the bot lane but also ranks 1 and 2 of the highest win rates in the game overall. Currently, Volibear in the jungle ranks 3rd with 54.18%.
What makes these champions special? Both benefit immensely from their supporter Senna.
Senna’s goal is to gather as many stacks of black souls as possible and poke the opponents with damage from afar. She is not played as a traditional support, but later builds AD items. This technique is referred to as “Fasting Senna” and was very popular even in 2020.
- Tahm Kench can farm many minions in the shared matchup and thus quickly develop into a strong tank. In general, he can absorb a lot of damage in fights in the bot lane and has CC. This ensures that the combo can stay in the bot lane for a long time and gather many souls.
- Seraphine, on the other hand, focuses fully on magic in runes and items. Her great strength lies in the CC, with which she can control enemies, and her damage at range through “Q” and “E”. Together with Senna, she can generate an immense amount of poke, and playing against them is accordingly annoying, as both Seraphine and Senna also have healing in tow.
Currently, the “Star Guardian” event is running in LoL. This video gives insight:
Seraphine and Tahm Kench received nerfs and are still really strong
What is Riot Games doing about this? Not enough, say the players. Seraphine received a nerf with patch 12.12. Her scaling with AP in the notes and the duration of CC have been reduced. Tahm Kench was also weakened. His health and damage from the passive were toned down.
At the same time, however, Riot Games gave Senna a small buff. Her health points increased by 30, and the damage of her Q was slightly reduced in the early game but slightly increased in the late game.
However, Senna is exactly the problem that many players have pointed out (via reddit). While the supporter herself has a lower win rate, when combined with Seraphine or Tahm Kench, it skyrockets. Senna is often paired with real AD-Carrys, while the other two champions are almost exclusively used with Senna.
How can you counter this? With more poke. Those who want to defeat Tahm Kench and Senna in the early game need a supporter in the bot lane with high damage like Ashe, Seraphine, or Karma, and a carry with a lot of poke in the early game, like Ezreal or Ziggs.
Another hope could be the upcoming patch 12.13, which is expected to be released on July 13. However, there are currently no nerfs for the three mentioned champions on the test server.
In patch 12.13, however, a new AD-Carry will be released:
