With the release of Episode: Heresy, Destiny 2 has adjusted various exotics to make them relevant for the new meta. Two of them can even make you immortal if played correctly.
Which exotics are meant? These mainly refer to the two exotic glaives that were introduced with the Witch Queen expansion:
- Blade of Intent (for Warlock)
- Blade of Action (for Titan)
These were tied to a long quest, and despite the effort required, they disappointed fans across the board. They were too weak and left Guardians vulnerable after using the special attack – but with the latest update from Episode Heresy, a lot has changed.

Why is it worth it now? Those who used the glaive’s special attacks lost all their energy – meaning you could no longer block and were completely vulnerable to your enemies. Bungie wanted to change that and announced adjustments in their latest blog post (via bungie.net):
- Exotic glaives (all classes)
- The special shot is no longer tied to glaive energy.
- Now triggered after six hits to allow for recharging the special shot.
- Increases with both shots and melee hits.
- Now triggered after six hits to allow for recharging the special shot.
In short, you can now trigger your special attack and still block freely afterward. Additionally, your charges are now increased by melee hits, which can be very helpful when you’re out of ammunition.

You can now continue blocking despite using your special attack. Lastly, both glaives received two bonuses in their intrinsic perks that are meant to make you even more powerful:
- Blade of Intent triggers “Glowing White”
- The turret now only targets wounded players
- Creates a brief healing wave when using the healing turret
- Blade of Action triggers “Destabilizing Rounds”
The effects of both glaives were already considered powerful, but they couldn’t be activated often enough to be worthy of their exotic slot. With these changes, you will be nearly invincible especially in a fireteam.
Those who haven’t completed the quests should start doing so soon.

What happened to the Hunter glaive? The Hunter glaive was already considered a strong option for Arc builds but received the same adjustments regarding blocking. Additionally, after using your special attack, you can benefit from the “Startling Feedback” effect.
Either way, a fireteam with all glaives might be worth it now, as they are now so powerful that they can sustain themselves even in more difficult activities.
