In the tactical shooter Rainbow Six: Siege, two twin brothers faced off in the finals of the big world championship over the weekend. For one of them, it meant a bitter defeat.
What world championship was it? In Ubisoft’s tactical shooter Rainbow Six: Siege, the Six Invitational 2024 took place in February, which is the world championship and the largest tournament of the game.
- For nearly 2 weeks, 20 teams fought in Brazil for the world championship title. The defending champion G2 Esports was also present.
- The winning team expected a prize pool of 1,000,000 US dollars. The second place received 450,000 dollars. 3rd place received 240,000 dollars.
- The Six Invitational was held for the seventh time in 2024. Previous winners included Continuum, PENTA, G2 Esports (2x), Spacestation Gaming, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and TSM.
On February 26, 2024, for the first time in the history of the Six Invitationals, two Brazilian teams played against each other in the final in Brazil: FaZe Clan vs. w7m esports. Two brothers participated, competing for different teams.
Twins in the World Championship Final
Who are these brothers? In the final of the Six Invitationals 2024, FaZe faced w7m. The 20-year-old Brazilian Thiago Sá Ferreira alias “Handyy” plays for FaZe. His twin brother Felipe “nade” Ferreira plays for w7m.
w7m won the final on the last map after coming back from a 6:1 deficit. The team managed to pull themselves together at the right moment and saved themselves with a comeback into overtime. There, they kept their nerves and won 2 rounds again as well as the final.
When the match ended and the victory for w7m was clear, the team jumped up and celebrated extensively. After a few minutes of ecstasy, the players were to go to the award ceremony on the big stage, but nade made a detour to his downcast brother, who was fighting back tears, and comforted him.
Afterwards, nade took his twin by the arm and went on stage with him, repeatedly pointing at him with his finger and providing emotional support. In the moment of his greatest success, he did not forget that his brother was experiencing his most painful defeat.
How did the tournament go for the brothers? The teams of both brothers finished the group stage in second place in their respective groups: FaZe was in Group B behind Spacestation Gaming and w7m esports had to give way to Virtus.pro.
In the following playoffs, FaZe was able to assert themselves confidently in the Upper-Bracket and secure a place in the grand final early. They eliminated strong opponents such as G2 Esports, Soniqs, and Virtus.pro into the Lower-Bracket.
w7m had to follow suit in the Lower-Bracket after being eliminated early against Wolves Esports. Afterwards, they also reached the final with victories against FearX, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Spacestation Gaming, Soniqs, G2 Esports, and Virtus.pro.
